Our History

Deslaurier is a Canadian business, with its inception beginning in 1979 in the Deslaurier family garage. Fast forward to today, Deslaurier employs approximately 180 people and has earned a reputation as a market leader for cabinetry design. The company operates effectively in several business channels that include award-winning builders, renovators and a dealer network that represents the Deslaurier brand.

When a fire destroyed the plant in 2009, Deslaurier seized the opportunity to rebuild a state-of-the-art green manufacturing facility in Renfrew Ontario. In 2018 Jim Deslaurier, founder, and Denis Staples, president of Deslaurier announced an exciting new chapter for Deslaurier with the introduction of new ownership.

Their reputation for exceptional design and customer service has also won them numerous industry awards. These awards reflect the dedicated and growing group of loyal customers who appreciate the advantage of quality craftsmanship and a proven reputation for design experience attention to detail.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility allows us to control the quality and delivery timeframe of your cabinets. Our manufacturing facility is staffed with a dedicated group of employees with over 60 years of combined experience with the company, while the three staff members who perform the key final quality checks on every cabinet boast over 50 years of knowledge and skill.

Sustainability

When a fire destroyed our plant in 2009, Deslaurier seized the opportunity to rebuild a state-of-the-art green manufacturing facility in Renfrew Ontario.

We’re committed to using locally sourced woods and green manufacturing practices and materials. When possible, we carefully choose Environmentally Preferred Products (EPP) or materials with no added formaldehyde for our core construction materials. In our finishing operations, we use water-based stains, lacquers and topcoats, which are less harmful to the environment, our employees and you. Deslaurier’s base product is green by nature, but we also offer additional green options for customers who elect to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

We know that protecting the environment is vital and we’ve changed our manufacturing processes to make that happen — beautifully.

Deslaurier is hiring! We’re currently seeking candidates to work out of our locations in Ottawa and Renfrew, Ontario.

Design Consultant Ottawa, Ontario

The designer’s primary functions are cabinetry sales and customer service. Essentially, the designer is responsible for working with customers to establish floor plans & layouts, coordinating cabinet, door, hardware and countertop selections while assisting them with appliances, flooring selections, etc. It also includes educating them on the order and installation processes, and the completion of accurate paperwork to meet customer’s expectations.

Job Description:

  • Meet the budgeted sales goals while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Discuss with the customer their needs, wants and design ideas, including assisting them with selecting suitable products (i.e., wood, MDF, thermofoil, countertops, hardware, etc.)
  • Create preliminary designs, layouts and floor plans using 2020 design software
  • Provide pricing information to customer using 2020 design software and negotiate contract terms and conditions
  • Perform all onsite field measurements and be able to anticipate and resolve site condition issues
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork using 2020 design software for the submission of the work order
  • Provide constructive feedback and ideas to management
  • Continuous improvement in product knowledge, and design trends and order accuracy
  • Attend the monthly sales meetings and the annual sales conference

Qualifications:

Design Support Specialist Ottawa, Ontario

We are looking for someone to join our Design Support team in Ottawa. The purpose of this role is to assist our Designers in building and growing a network of clients through inspired design and exemplary service.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Generating quotes and/or estimates for new prospective clients and/or builders
  • Drawing and costing out kitchens, bathrooms, etc., using 2020 software provided by DCC
  • Assisting where necessary on the GOHBA Housing Design Award entries such as CAD layouts, written descriptions etc.
  • Design support for busy designers in the area of drawing layouts using the 2020 software
  • Selling of small add on jobs to existing customers to assist the designer on existing accounts
  • Possible showroom coverage to handle retail showroom traffic during vacations and summer months
  • Administration work as assigned
  • Attending training in certain areas of the company that may not involve the design process
  • Attend the monthly sales meetings and the annual sales conference
  • Site measures – builder or retail renovations
  • Interaction with site personnel – installers, service techs, inspectors etc.

Field Service Technician Carp, Ontario

The primary focus of this role is to complete service requests effectively and efficiently per the daily schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Field Service Repairs
  • pick up service parts and paperwork at Carp Depot each morning and ensure parts are complete before leaving Depot
  • attend appointments at specified locations and times as per daily schedule
  • complete repairs to DCC quality standards and customer requirements
  • report completion to service manager and if time permits, assist other field technicians
  • Paperwork Completion
  • For any items completed on service reports have customer sign to acknowledge their acceptance of that particular service item or all items on the service report.
  • For all retail clients with completed service, present invoice and collect payment of final amount owing.
  • Paperwork for New/Incomplete Service Items
  • Complete all return service reports daily utilizing catalogue codes and proper terminology.
  • All reports must be complete, accurate and signed off by the customer acknowledging the service to be completed.

  • Always operate company vehicles in a safe and professional manner.

 Education:

  • Grade 12

Qualifications:

  • working knowledge of cabinetry installation, counter tops, woodworking and finishing techniques

Delivery Driver Renfrew, Ontario

The Delivery Driver, under the direction of the Delivery Lead, will work closely with the other drivers, delivery assistants and the installation coordinator to ensure safe, damage free and on time delivery of material.  

Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport materials and product to and from specified destinations such as clients, dealers, builder locations and offices, between the Pembroke and Ottawa as well as outlying areas.
  • Load completed orders and arrange them in the truck by order of daily delivery schedule.
  • Unload product from delivery trucks verifying paperwork against shipments to ensure accuracy and signoff.
  • Maintain a timely schedule and make all deliveries as planned.
  • Present bills and receipts and collect payments for goods delivered or loaded.
  • Turn in payment received from deliveries.
  • Keep receipts for gas, maintenance and any other services performed on the truck.
  • Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
  • Maintain records such as vehicle logs in accordance with regulations.
  • Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment while on sites, around all vehicles and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by lead hand or manager.

Qualifications:

  • Clean drivers abstract
  • G license with a clean driving record (DZ or AZ is an asset)
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 100lbs
  • Previous shipping / receiving experience
  • Forklift operator certification is a strong asset
  • General knowledge of WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Health and Safety
  • Proven problem solving, communication and planning/scheduling skills are essential

Production Scheduler Renfrew, Ontario

Deslaurier is seeking a highly motivated production scheduler to build and maintain the production and service schedules to ensure Deslaurier meets and/or exceeds customer expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain, and distribute production & service schedules
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to determine progress and provide updates
  • Communicate with external customers (e.g. residential, builders and trade partners) to determine delivery dates and manage changes
  • Working with various stakeholders to resolve scheduling changes and conflicts

Qualifications:

  • Education: Grade 12
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to anticipate potential issues and mitigate possible negative consequences
  • Minimum 2 years production scheduling experience
  • Proficiency with Google Sheets
  • Previous experience with an ERP system would be considered an asset

Maintenance Supervisor Renfrew, Ontario

The primary focus of this role is to lead and support the maintenance team; maintain systems and equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, restoring, repairing, rebuilding, or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts.


Qualifications:

  • Diploma / trade certification in an industrial mechanic or millwright related field and/or a university degree in a mechanical engineering related discipline is required
  • Minimum of five years maintenance experience in an industrial plant setting
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude with strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Team player with sound judgement including excellent oral and written communication
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and thoroughness; looking for ways to improve and promote quality
  • 3 or more years of industrial maintenance leadership experience would be a strong asset
  • Specific experience in woodworking/cabinet manufacturing environment is an asset

Assets:

  • Plan, coordinate, assign and supervise maintenance day-to-day activities of the 45000 sq ft facility
  • Lead the onboarding of a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Review equipment service manuals, usage schedules, and records of maintenance issues to determine ideal frequency of preventive maintenance
  • Ensure timely and efficient execution of maintenance to reduce equipment downtime and improve machine efficiencies.
  • Ensure all DCC production, packaging, storage, shipping, material handling equipment and facilities are in good repair
  • Participate in DCC safety discussions to promote awareness, identify hazards, control methods, and maintain a high level of awareness on safety, environmental and process compliance
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely while following OH&S, ESA as well as DCC regulations and procedures
  • Deliver leadership, mentoring, and administration support to all team members ensuring fairness and consistency.
  • Increase employee engagement through participation in DCC continuous improvement, including supporting 5S activities throughout the operation

Materials Management Supervisor Renfrew, Ontario

Under the general supervision of the Production Manager, the Materials Management Supervisor will oversee and direct the activities of a 3-4 person team. This will include coordinating all operations within the department and making key decisions regarding the receiving, unloading, storage and distribution of incoming materials while managing employee workflow.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading a team
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a materials management environment
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in an ever-changing environment
  • Strong scheduling, data entry skills
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Experience utilizing inventory management / materials management systems would be a strong asset
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine best practices and effective utilization of employees for the receiving, unloading, storage and distribution of incoming materials
  • Establish and implement standardized practices and procedures related to receiving and inventory management
  • Continuously update employees on procedural changes and identify opportunities to enhance efficiencies
  • Maintain accurate in-process inventory at working cells including reports on day-to-day activities and incident logs, and relay information to appropriate individuals
  • Review and report labour variances
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment through enforcement of policies and procedures supporting 5S, and DCC quality and safety objectives
  • Ensure new employees receive proper orientation and training
  • Ensure all pre-shift forklift maintenance and inspections are taking place
