1. Marble Patterning

Marble has always been a luxury item for kitchens and bathrooms, but in the past couple of years, there has been a particularly sharp uptick in marble demand. Homeowners are revisiting the classic, high-end appeal of the all-natural stone with fresh interest.

Heavily veined marble is simultaneously classic and modern; bold and inviting. The organic, fluid and 100% unique patterns on a marble slab are timeless; and also quite trendy!

Heading into 2023, the pronounced appearance of marble has become a go-to for homeowners looking for an intricately designed countertop surface.

Marble surfaces are more popular now than they have been in years. How long is that going to last? Like most trends, no one really knows until it’s gone.

The extravagant veining of marble slabs is a hot commodity in the world of kitchen countertops and backsplashes – not to mention bathroom floors and shower walls!

Hesitant of the lavish price tag of marble surfaces? Quartz can be a more cost-effective alternative!

You might not know it, but quartz countertops are engineered products that are 93% authentic stone and 7% manmade. This manufacturing process actually allows fabricators to manipulate quartz to mimic the look of natural stones, like marble.

However you choose to achieve it, the luscious veining of marble is sure to be a major player in 2023 kitchen designs and beyond.

2. Bold Backsplashes

Speaking of marble, bold and intricate backsplashes are currently in full force in a variety of manners

For such a small kitchen feature, the backsplash can carry a lot of weight in the overall design. A backsplash is a great way to add some personality to your kitchen without committing to larger kitchen elements like daring cabinet choices or funky countertop selections.

For example, stone backsplashes are all the rage. Whether it’s the pronounced veining of something like the aforementioned marble, or the classic subtlety of light quartz. They work well on their own, or as a way to match your countertop surfaces.

Of course, tile backsplashes are still in demand, with bright colours and decorative mosaic tiling being increasingly popular. Just take a look below:

The prominent backsplashes that homeowners used to be hesitant of including in their kitchens are now included to stand out as an eye-catching feature.

3. Larger Kitchen Islands

A staple in homes for decades, the kitchen island has long functioned as the centrepiece of the room. With traditional dining rooms falling to the wayside, people are spending more and more time in the kitchen than ever before.

It’s no surprise, then, to see that kitchen islands are expanding.

What better way to accommodate more dining and entertaining duties in the kitchen than with a large, multipurpose kitchen island?

Islands have always been beneficial for kitchen meal prep stations, additional base cabinet storage, and some room on the opposite side for quick meals or casual seating if need be.

Now, islands are being intended as a space for dining. Spacious seating for meals and entertaining are needed more than ever, and islands are now being designed with additional overhang to seat up to 6 or even 8 people!

Just take a look at the expansive kitchen island in Cobalt Blue Cuisinier.

The nucleus of the kitchen is expanding, so grab a stool and have a seat at the island.

4. Colourful Cabinets

Colour is making a big comeback in kitchens. Homeowners have begun adding flair and personality to a room that has conventionally been designed with safe and popular features.

Many people are slowly shifting away from completely white kitchens and have begun including more brazen colour choices for their cabinetry.

Bold, colourful cabinets are a stark contrast to the ever-popular white kitchen. Strong, prominent colours like dark greens and blues, or even black, have become the trend in recent years. Just take a look at 6 Cabinet Colour Trends for 2023, and see what we mean!

Cabinet hardware can play a large part, too. Something along the lines of navy blue painted cabinets paired with more daring gold hardware is sure to impress.

Of course, colour isn’t only limited to vibrant, eye-popping shades. Warmer tones such as taupes, beiges, and gentle greys bring soft hues and uniqueness to kitchen cabinets.

Whatever your personal palette may be, adding a touch of colour to your cabinets is sure to liven up your kitchen design. Not sure what colour is for you? Check out our article on how to choose a colour for your kitchen cabinets!

5. Custom Range Hoods

The surge in demand for decorative range hoods is at an all-time high.

No longer are they bulky kitchen appliances used for function and lacking in style. Having some sort of millwork or ornamentation above your cooking surface is becoming the standard in contemporary kitchens.

Today, range hoods are customized statement pieces, trimmed with colour, and detailed with unique shapes and clean lines.

Whether it’s modern and simple with clean lines and a flat door – or something ornate with decorative mouldings – homeowners are putting custom range hoods on their must-have lists heading into 2023.

The beauty about custom range hoods is it feels like a trend that has “timeless” written all over them. Range hoods are now integral parts of kitchen design, performing both a functional purpose as well as acting as a major design accent piece.

Especially when paired with an impressive cooktop, the range wall is fast becoming a statement piece for kitchen designs!

6. Embracing Oak

Oak is back — and in a big way. That is in large part thanks to the emergence of white oak in the past decade within the interior design space. Red oak has also become a more popular choice among homeowners and is being utilized in a modern way more and more.

A lot of people hear oak cabinets and immediately think back to their parents' or grandparents' old and outdated kitchens. Honey-coloured, arched door styles, and a traditional design that doesn’t mesh with today’s modern kitchens.

Not anymore.

Now, oak is back to being one of the most sought-after wood species you can include in your home. Not just with cabinets, either, but other kitchen features and fine detailing; be it with a custom range hood or a set of floating shelves

Floating shelves are a great way to add more natural wood texture to the kitchen’s overall appearance and play well next to painted cabinets in a two-tone kitchen. If oak cabinets are situated for the base, having floating oak shelves next to painted upper cabinets is a beautiful way to tie the room together.
